Week 6 Post 1: Facebook Insights | Reach vs Engagement

Post reach is how many users have viewed the post. Post engagement measures how many views, likes, clicks, comments, and shares your post gets.

Knowing the difference between the two is important because they can tell you valuable insights, depending on the goal of the post. For instance, "reach" aids in figuring out if a certain post was seen by a lot of people or not. This metric can be valuable when making an important statement that you want to get out. A recent, real world example of this is Tesla's announcement of their new software version 10.0. The engagement metric, on the other hand, is important to follow when trying to build relationships and loyalty. It can also be useful to see how much hype and interest there is for a new product, feature, or service your business is offering.

A business can use insights to learn more about and better relate to their customer base. Insights show a business's audience demographics, revealing if they are mostly of a certain age group, location, gender, or job position. This allows them to gear their posts to better resonate with that particular group. For instance, if the audience is mostly local, a business might post something about a local event that runs parallel with their business and that their audience might be interested in.
