Week 10: Blogging for Business Post 1

Often, as a company expands and hires an increasing number of employees they have difficulty keeping their companies originality. The result is they become less authentic and more cold and corporate. In order to prevent this business catastrophe from happening businesses need to appeal to their customers emotions. This blog post will cover how businesses can do this as well as when they should refrain from added personality.

A good example of a company using social media to appeal to their customers emotions by showcasing personal experience is Tesla, a company with a dominant social media in their market. Looking over their Instagram you'll notice that a majority of their posts do not come from them, they are instead reposts from their own customers. With this strategy, Tesla is doing more than creating hyper-loyal customers of those who they reposted. They are also appealing to new potential customers who can learn about Tesla not from Tesla themselves, but from other people. This creates a level of trust between Tesla and potential customers, who can see firsthand how people like them experience Tesla's cars.

Personal touches are very important whenever conversing with customers, as this will make the customer feel valued by the business. Responding with a blanket statement is a great way to make your customers feel unimportant.

However it does not make sense to add personal touches to every post. Like all things there need to be balance. Posts that are impersonal can be used for things like announcing a new product or feature.

  1. The customer value is very important and Tesla was a perfect example. Quite genius for a company to basically market itself without doing anything besides have an amazing overall company and product. New products is a perfect example for a non personal post! Nice read.

  2. That's really interesting that Tesla reposts customers' comments. What a great way to make a personal connection while also using them to be word of mouth referrals!

  3. Robert,
Great example with Tesla using user-created content on their Instagram! Like you said, it's a catastrophe if a business comes off as cool and unapproachable, so the warmer the tone the better. Even when it comes to product releases, a little personality goes a long way.
    Great post!

  4. That example is a great one! I didn't know that is how Tesla advertised. I think that is a great way of showing great feedback and giving customers encouragement to buy from other customers rather than coming from the business itself. Also you are right that there needs to be a balance. Personal touch is good but not all the time.
