Week 3 Part 2: 5 Businesses & Comments

Business 1 - SpaceX - https://www.spacex.com/

Twitter - https://twitter.com/spacex - last post - Aug 29 - many posts a month

Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/spacex - last post Aug 27 - 2-4 posts a month

Flickr - https://www.flickr.com/photos/spacex - last post Aug 6

Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/spacex/ - last post Aug 29 3-8 posts a month
SpaceX has a strong social media presence on Instagram, and Youtube with the two having 5m
and 2.5m followers. However there strongest social media is Twitter where they post the most
frequently and have 8.95m followers.

Business 2 - Blue Origin - https://www.blueorigin.com/
Twitter - https://twitter.com/blueorigin - Sep 7 - 3-8 posts a month
Youtube -  https://www.youtube.com/user/blueoriginchannel/ - Jun 20 0-4 posts month
Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/blueorigin/ - Aug 29 1-2 posts a month
Blue Origin has a much smaller following than their competitor SpaceX. Blue Origin has 127k
subscribers on Youtube, 181k on Twitter, and 84.5k on Instagram. Although Twitter is their most
used and followed social media, they are not too active on it. These low numbers don't surprise
me as the company is not well known when compared to SpaceX.

Business 3 - Mercedes - https://www.mbusa.com/en/home
Twitter - https://twitter.com/mercedesbenzusa - Sep 9 - roughly 3 posts a day
Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/mbusa - Sep 4 - 0-5 posts a month
Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/mercedesbenzusa - Sep 7 - 1 post a day
Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/MercedesBenzUSA/ - Sep 9 - 3 posts a day
Even though Mercedes is more active in social media and a larger/more established car
manufacturer with a dominant f1 team they still have much less followers on every social media
platform than their electric competitor Tesla. Mercedes has 746k on twitter, 2.4m on f1 twitter,
528k on youtube, 4.4m likes on facebook, and 3.3m on Instagram. I consider Instagram their
most successful social media.

Business 4 - Tesla - https://www.tesla.com/
Twitter - https://twitter.com/tesla?lang=en - Sep 9 -2 posts a day
Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/teslamotors/ - Sep 7 - 1 post every 2-3 days
Tesla is doing excellent on social media. They have 960k on Youtube, 6.1m on Instagram, and
4.1m on twitter. Unlike Mercedes the company has a tendency of going viral. I consider Instagram
and Twitter both very successful for the company. To me this is very much deserved, their social
media is by far the most interesting of any car manufacturer.

Business 5 - Mclaren - https://www.mclaren.com/
Twitter (auto)- https://twitter.com/mclarenauto - Sep 9 - 1 every other day
Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/user/OfficialMcLarenVids - Sep 8 - 2-3 posts/week
Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/mclarenauto/ - Sep 9 - 3 pots a day
Mclaren has 1.7m followers for their f1 twitter page, 463k for auto twitter page, 6.7m for auto
instagram, and 212k on Youtube. Discluding the f1 pages their most successful social media is
by far Instagram.

For this assignment I thought it would be most interesting to see how competing companies
social media differ, and what factors affect their popularity. To start off I chose SpaceX along with
their biggest competitor Blue Origin(owned by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos). SpaceX has made a
name for itself at the top of its industry and a major figure in innovation while Blue Origin has
trailed meekly behind. SpaceX is a very light hearted company and often uses humor in their
posts. I think it is for these reasons why they have amassed such a large and loyal fanbase while
many people have not heard of Blue Origin.
